The length measurement of cables in the electrical industry was one of the first important applications.

This involves measuring the time it takes for an electrical impulse to return to its origin. If one now knows the speed of propagation in the cable, which also depends on the dielectric, one can directly deduce the length of the cable from the time. On its way one recognizes also many other “events” like, connection, branches or – errors in the isolation or in the conductor caused by break, corrosion and much more besides.

TDR Meter: The TDR 2050 gives you two channels, very high resolution and a colour screen so you can locate faults on paired metal cables. With a minimum resolution of 0.1 m and a maximum range of 20 km, depending on the selected speed factor and cable type, you can locate any “event” on your cable and virtually any problem. Depending on the model, you use different output impedances from 25, 50, 75, 100, 125 up to 140 ohms. Automatic impedance matching is an additional feature.

With the Time Domain Reflectometer, you can set the speed factor between 0.2 and 0.99 to meet all cable testing requirements.
